GoodVat

Global e-commerce has a fundamental compliance problem. If you sell anything cross-border, you are immediately thrust into a labyrinth of more than 14,000 perpetually changing tax jurisdictions. From shifting digital goods VAT thresholds in Europe to incredibly complex sales tax layers in the United States, keeping up with global tax law is an operational nightmare that distracts merchants from their core business.

GoodVat is a modern, developer-first global tax calculation engine built to solve this exact problem. Designed specifically for cross-border merchants, Merchant of Record (MoR) systems, and Payment Service Providers (PSPs), GoodVat completely abstracts away the friction and fear of international tax compliance.

Historically, this critical infrastructure has been dominated by two extremes: ancient legacy incumbents running on outdated architecture, or overhyped VC-backed startups that price out the independent businesses that need them most. The result is a market full of unhappy customers forced to overpay for fragile software or risk severe audit liabilities. GoodVat was built to be the clear alternative - highly accurate, effortlessly composable, and fairly priced.

The underlying difficulty in tax calculation isn’t just looking up a rate in a database; it is a hyper-local geographic problem. In the US alone, a single street address can sit inside overlapping layers of state tax, county tax, municipal tax, and special-purpose districts like transit, school, or fire departments. A standard ZIP-code-based lookup is dangerously inaccurate, frequently returning the same tax rate for two houses that sit in entirely different tax zones.

GoodVat solves this by taking a high-precision, geospatial approach to tax calculation. Our engine resolves customer locations to precise rooftop coordinates and overlays them directly against complex jurisdictional boundary shapefiles. We calculate the exact combined rate for any transaction, anywhere in the world. Whether it is GST in Australia, VAT in the UK, or a highly specific local tax in Alabama, GoodVat delivers the correct, legally compliant rate instantly.

GoodVat exposes this immense complexity through a clean, stateless REST API that integrates in minutes, not months. We handle the brutal operational realities - monitoring legislative updates across 14,000 authorities, maintaining massive geospatial databases, and managing rate changes - so your engineering team doesn't have to.

Beyond calculation, GoodVat monitors your economic nexus. By tracking your sales volumes against global thresholds, you will know exactly when and where you are legally required to register.

Stop worrying about keeping up with thousands of different tax authorities. GoodVat provides the structural foundation and pinpoint accuracy you need to scale your revenue globally - without the fear of audits, and without the exorbitant enterprise price tag.
