What is AI Sandboxes by Buddy?
Isolated cloud machines for your AI coding agents
AI Sandboxes by Buddy gives your AI coding agents their own isolated cloud machines. Each sandbox is a dedicated Linux VM with a 70ms boot time, a 50GB persistent disk that survives reboots, and scaling from 1 to 12 vCPU / 2 to 24GB RAM. Sandboxes come with root access, passwordless sudo, Docker inside, and SSH plus VS Code Remote-SSH access, with node, python3, git, Docker and AI coding-agent toolchains preinstalled. You can create and manage them via MCP, CLI, TypeScript SDK, YAML or REST API. Billing is per-minute; an example configuration of 720 hours with 2 CPU and 4GB RAM costs about $62 per month.

Common questions
AI Sandboxes by Buddy FAQs
What survives a reboot?
Your files, installed packages, databases and build caches on the persistent disk; memory contents do not.
How is this different from a container?
A sandbox is a full long-lived machine: persistent disk, root access, Docker inside and no fixed lifetime, unlike ephemeral containers.
Do I pay while a sandbox is stopped?
No. Compute billing stops when the sandbox stops; only storage is billed while stopped.
How are sandboxes isolated from each other?
Every sandbox is its own independent machine, isolated from all others.
What happens when a sandbox times out?
Snapshots are kept and the sandbox can be auto-deleted on timeout based on your rules.
